Count your spacebar presses
Choose a time limit, then press Space as fast as you can. The timer starts on your first press and stops on its own; you get the number of presses and the presses per second. With "No limit" it keeps counting until you press Stop. Only real presses count. Holding the key down sends repeated key events, and the counter ignores those, so a held spacebar counts once. It also doubles as a quick check that your spacebar registers every press: watch the on-screen key light up each time it goes down. Presses are read in your browser and nothing is stored or uploaded.
Common questions
Does holding the spacebar count?
No. A held key makes the computer send repeated key events, and the counter ignores those. Each press counts once, no matter how long you hold it.
Why doesn't the page scroll when I press Space?
On this page Space is captured for counting, so it does not scroll. The settings panel is the exception: Space still works its buttons and menus normally.
What is a good spacebar score?
There is no official benchmark. Repeated single-finger tapping usually lands in the 5 to 8 presses per second range, and short tests give higher rates than long ones. Compare your own scores at the same time limit.
Can I use it to test a faulty spacebar?
Yes. Press it slowly and watch the counter and the on-screen key. A press that does not light the key or add a count is a missed press. For the rest of the keyboard, use the Keyboard Tester.
Is anything recorded?
No. Key presses are counted in your browser and only the totals are shown. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
