Test your microphone online
Microphone Test confirms your mic works before a call, recording, or stream. Press Start and allow microphone access when your browser asks; then speak, tap the mic, or make noise and watch the level meter and waveform respond. If you have more than one microphone — a headset, a webcam mic, a built-in one — pick the device you want from the list and test each in turn to find the one that actually picks up your voice. A meter that moves means the mic is working and the browser is receiving audio. A flat meter means the wrong device is selected, the mic is muted, or permission was denied. The audio is analysed live in your browser and is never recorded, saved, or uploaded — press Stop or close the tab and access ends immediately.
Common questions
Do you record or upload my audio?
No. The tool reads the live audio stream only to draw the level meter and waveform in your browser. Nothing is recorded, saved, or sent anywhere, and access stops the moment you press Stop or close the tab.
Why does it ask for microphone permission?
The browser requires your explicit permission before any page can access the microphone. Click Allow when prompted. If you blocked it before, use the camera/mic icon in your address bar to allow it, then press Start again.
The meter does not move — what is wrong?
Check that the correct microphone is selected in the device list, that it is not muted in your operating system, and that permission was granted. Try speaking louder or tapping the mic. Switching devices in the list re-tests instantly.
Can I choose which microphone to test?
Yes. If your device has several microphones, they appear in the dropdown once you have granted access. Select any one to switch the live meter to that device.
Does it work in every browser?
It works in modern browsers that support the getUserMedia and Web Audio APIs — current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Microphone access also requires a secure (https) connection, which this site uses.
