Open a video file — MP4, WebM, MOV, or anything your browser can decode — and the tool pulls out its audio track and shows the waveform. Preview the extracted sound, then download it as a WAV. WAV is used because browsers can encode it losslessly; where your browser supports it, a compressed WebM/Opus option is offered too for a smaller file. The video is decoded entirely in your browser to recover the audio — nothing is uploaded, so it works with private clips and keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Note: because the extraction uses the browser's audio decoder, it works when the browser can decode the video's audio track (the common H.264/AAC and VP9/Opus cases). A file the browser cannot decode will report an error.
Common questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is decoded locally with the Web Audio API to recover its soundtrack, and the audio is saved in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I get an MP3?
Not directly — browsers do not include an MP3 encoder, so the extracted audio is saved as WAV (or WebM/Opus where supported). Convert the WAV to MP3 afterwards if you need one.
Which video formats work?
Any video whose audio track your browser can decode — commonly MP4 (H.264/AAC), WebM (VP8/VP9 with Opus/Vorbis), and MOV. If the browser cannot decode a file, the tool reports an error rather than guessing.
The file failed to decode — why?
The browser could not decode that video's audio track. This can happen with unusual codecs. Try a different file, or first convert the video to MP4 or WebM with a tool that supports it.
