Test your reaction time

Click the pad to start a round. It turns red, and after a random wait it turns green; press as soon as you see green. The time between the green frame and your press is your reaction time, in milliseconds. A full set is five rounds, and you get the average, the median and your best. Pressing during the wait is "too soon" and that round does not count, and a press faster than a human can react is treated as a guess. Use a mouse, a trackpad, a touchscreen, or Space or Enter on the focused pad. Times are measured in your browser and nothing is stored or uploaded.

Common questions

What is a normal reaction time?

For a simple visual test like this one, many people land somewhere around 200 to 300 ms. Results vary with age, alertness, practice and your equipment, so compare your own sets rather than chasing a single number.

Why is my time slower than I expected?

The figure includes your screen's delay in showing the green frame and your mouse or keyboard's delay in reporting the press. A 60 Hz screen alone can add up to about 16 ms. A wireless or power-saving mouse can add more.

Why did my round say "too soon"?

You pressed while the pad was still red. The wait is random each round so it cannot be timed by rhythm. Presses under 80 ms after green are also rejected, because that is faster than a real reaction and means the press was a guess.

Why use the median as well as the average?

One slow round, say you blinked, pulls the average up. The median is the middle result, so it is a steadier picture of your typical reaction.

Is my result saved?

No. Times exist only in the open page. Nothing is stored in your browser or sent to a server.
