Privacy Policy

UsefulTab is built to be private by default. The tools do their work inside your own browser, and the content you put into them — your files, images, and text — is never uploaded to any server. This page explains exactly what that covers, what the site itself does load over the network, what it stores on your device, and where third parties (Google Analytics and Google AdSense) are involved.
Your files and text stay on your device
This is the core promise of UsefulTab. Every tool does its work in your browser using JavaScript. The file you resize, the PDF you merge, the code you format, the text you convert — all of it is read and processed on your own device.
- Text you paste or type into a tool is processed locally and is not transmitted to UsefulTab or anyone else.
- Images, PDFs, and other files you add are read in your browser; their contents, and their file names, are not sent anywhere or logged.
- Tool content is not kept after you close or refresh the page, with one opt-in exception described below (the invoice generator's “Remember my details” option).
There is no account system, no sign-up, and no upload step — so there is nothing for us to collect about the work you do here in the first place.
What does go over the network
Processing locally does not mean the site makes no network requests. To be precise about what does travel:
- The site itself. Your browser downloads the pages, styles, scripts and icons from usefultab.app, like any website. Some tools download an extra library (for example the PDF engine) the first time you use them. Like most web hosts, the server may keep standard access logs of these requests (IP address, page requested, browser type, time). None of these requests contain what you put into a tool.
- Google Analytics and Google AdSense scripts load on every page of the website. They are described in the next section.
- Links you choose to open. A few tools offer links to other services, and following one sends the details shown in that link to that service: the calendar tool's “Add to Google Calendar” and Outlook links include your event details, and the EXIF viewer's map link sends a photo's GPS coordinates to OpenStreetMap. Nothing is sent unless you click.
- Your browser's speech engine. Text to Speech and the NATO alphabet's “speak” button hand text to your browser's built-in speech feature. Most voices run on your device, but some browser or operating-system voices are cloud voices that send the text to their provider (for example Google or Microsoft) to generate the audio. UsefulTab itself receives nothing.
Google Analytics and Google AdSense
These are the only third-party services the site loads, and the only cookies on the site come from them. Neither receives the content you put into a tool: tools keep your files, images and text in the page and do not pass them to these scripts. Search text you type into the site's tool search is kept out of the page address these scripts read.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see which pages and tools are visited and how often, so we know what to improve. It sets cookies holding a randomly generated identifier, which lets it count repeat visits from the same browser. That identifier is not linked to your name or email, but it does distinguish your browser, so this is pseudonymous rather than anonymous data. Google receives standard usage data such as the pages you view, approximate (city-level) location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and the referring page.
Google AdSense
The website loads Google's AdSense script so that ads can be shown to help keep UsefulTab free. When ads are shown, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve them and to measure them, and may personalize them based on your visits to this and other websites. You can manage ad personalization in Google's ad settings, and Google explains its practices in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. The Android app does not include AdSense.
What UsefulTab stores in your browser
The site saves a few small things on your device so it behaves the way you left it. They stay in your browser, are readable only by this site, and are not sent to a server:
-
Theme and mode (
localStorage) — your chosen color theme and light/dark setting. -
Recently used tools (
localStorage) — up to eight tool names, for the “Recently used” row on the homepage. It contains none of the content you put into a tool. -
AI Model Explorer comparison
(
localStorage) — the ids of the models you added to the comparison. Your searches are not stored. -
Invoice generator sender profile
(
localStorage, opt-in) — when “Remember my details & logo on this device” is ticked (it is ticked by default), your business details, currency and logo image are saved so the next invoice is pre-filled. Untick it to delete them. Client details and line items are never saved. -
Which search result you opened
(
sessionStorage) — when you open a tool from the site search, the tool's name and which search box you used are kept for the next page view only, then deleted. The search text is never stored. - Offline copies (the browser's Cache Storage, via a service worker) — copies of the site's pages and files you have opened, so they can reopen without a connection. These are the site's own pages and libraries, never your files or text.
You can clear all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for usefultab.app, which also removes the Google cookies. None of it is tied to an identity, because the site does not have one for you.
Using the tools offline
Offline support depends on the tool and on what this browser has already downloaded:
- Most tools keep working if your connection drops after the page has loaded.
- Some tools — the PDF tools, HEIC conversion, YAML, SQL and Markdown conversion, PGP, Word to PDF, Excel and ZIP export, the barcode generator, the QR scanner, and a few others — download a library the first time you use them, so that first use needs a connection.
- A tool page you have already used in this browser while online reopens offline. A page you have never opened cannot, and shows a short “You're offline” notice instead.
- Saved copies can be removed by clearing site data or by a site update, after which a page needs one more online visit.
Managing or disabling cookies
You are in control of cookies. Every modern browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies in its settings, and content blockers can stop the Google scripts from loading at all. Blocking cookies or those scripts does not affect the tools themselves — they run locally either way.
Printing
Printing and “Save as PDF” use your browser's built-in print dialog. The pages are rendered locally; no document is transmitted to produce them.
Children's privacy
UsefulTab is a general-audience utility site and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the site's data practices change, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date above will change to reflect it.
