Test your keyboard online
Keyboard Tester shows a full keyboard layout on screen. Press any key and its button lights up; release it and the highlight fades, while the key stays marked as tested so you can see which keys you have already checked. A live readout shows the last key's label, its event code (like KeyA or Space), and its numeric keyCode. Use it to find a dead key that never lights up, a stuck key that stays lit, or ghosting where pressing several keys at once drops one. Hold down multiple keys to check that your keyboard registers them together. Everything runs in your browser using the standard keyboard events — no keystrokes are logged, stored, or uploaded anywhere.
Common questions
How do I test a key?
Just press it. The matching key on the on-screen layout lights up while held and is marked as tested once released. The readout also shows the key's name and code so you can confirm the exact key registered.
How can I tell if a key is dead or stuck?
A dead key never lights up when you press it. A stuck key stays lit after you release it, or lights up without being pressed. Watch the on-screen layout as you press each key to spot either problem.
What is keyboard ghosting?
Ghosting is when pressing several keys at once causes one or more to not register, a limitation of some keyboards. Hold down a few keys together and check that all of them light up to test for it.
Some keys open a menu or do something instead of testing. Why?
A few keys (like the browser's own shortcuts, or the OS key) are handled by the browser or system before the page sees them. Most keys are captured for the test; combinations reserved by your browser may not be.
Are my keystrokes recorded?
No. The test reads keyboard events only to light up the layout in your browser. Nothing you type is stored, logged, or sent anywhere — it never leaves your device.
