Runs entirely in your browserEnjoying this tool?
UsefulTab is free, with no sign-up and no limits. If it saved you some time, you can treat me to something small from my wishlist — totally optional.
Generate CSS gradient text, locally
A gradient text effect paints a color gradient across the letters instead of a flat color. In CSS it works by setting a linear-gradient as the element's background, then clipping that background to the shape of the text with background-clip: text and making the text itself transparent. This tool lets you type your text, pick the two gradient colors and the angle, see it render live, and copy the exact CSS to paste into your own stylesheet. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Common questions
How does CSS gradient text work?
You set a linear-gradient as the element's background, then use background-clip: text (with -webkit-background-clip: text for Safari and Chrome) and color: transparent so the gradient shows only through the letter shapes. This tool writes all of that for you.
Which browsers support gradient text?
All modern browsers support it. Chrome, Edge, and Safari need the -webkit-background-clip: text prefix, which the generated CSS includes, so the effect works across current browsers.
Can I use more than two colors?
This generator uses a clean two-color gradient, which covers the vast majority of gradient-text use. You can always add more color stops by hand to the generated linear-gradient() if you want a multi-stop effect.
Will gradient text hurt accessibility?
Keep enough contrast between the gradient colors and the background, and don't rely on color alone to convey meaning. Gradient text is a visual flourish — the underlying text is still real, selectable, and readable by screen readers.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The preview and the CSS are generated entirely in your browser as you type. Your text never leaves your device and nothing is stored.
