How to split a PDF
A single oversized PDF is awkward to share when someone only needs a few pages of it. Splitting lets you hand off exactly the part that matters. This guide explains the three things people mean by "split," and how to do each one privately with the free Split PDF tool.
The fastest way
Open Split PDF, load your document, choose the pages or range you want, and download the result. Read on to pick the right approach for your situation.
Three ways to "split"
- One file per page — turn a 10-page PDF into 10 single files. Good when each page is a separate document (invoices, tickets).
- Extract a range — pull pages 4–9 into their own file and leave the rest behind. The usual case for sending one section of a long report.
- Drop pages — keep the whole document but delete the pages you don't want.
Extracting a page range
Select the first and last page of the part you need and export just that range. You get a clean new PDF with only those pages, which is far tidier than sending the entire file and telling someone "just read pages 4 to 9."
Dropping unwanted pages instead
If the goal is to clean up a document rather than carve a piece out of it — a blank scan, a duplicate cover page, an internal note — use Remove PDF Pages to delete those pages and keep everything else in place.
Putting pieces back together
Split too aggressively, or need to assemble pages from several PDFs into one? Merge PDF joins files in the order you set.
A note on privacy
PDFs often hold contracts, statements, or records. Split PDF works entirely in your browser, so your document is never uploaded to a server.
